Putnam Valley Pediatrics
Office Hours
EARLY BIRD TIME -- 8:00 AM Monday through Friday except holidays. No appointment is necessary, and you must be signed in no later than 8:15 AM. This time is set aside for minor illnesses and problems--it is not the time for major or long, involved issues. First-come, first served, except emergencies, and we will try to have you on your way to work, or your child on the way to school as soon as possible. Click here for additional information on Early Bird Time.
REGULAR OFFICE HOURS -- the office will be open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily Monday through Friday except holidays, and from 8:30 to 10:00 AM most Saturdays, to see children by appointment. We have evening hours on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Regular telephone access time is from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday, and 8:30 to 10:00 AM on Saturday. We try to see all ill children the same day, so we ask that you call early in the day so we can accommodate your time needs.
CHECKUPS -- time is available for health-maintenance examinations ("checkups") from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily, Monday through Friday, and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesdays. Saturday office hours are reserved for ill children. These appointments can be made either with the doctor or the nurse-practitioner, whomever you think your child will be most comfortable with. As a practice tradition, we like to do the yearly exams during the month of your child's birthday, however we will always try to accommodate your child's needs. We suggest that you call well in advance so we can try to meet your scheduling needs.
ILLNESSES -- it is our policy to see acutely ill children the same day. In order to accomplish this, we ask you to call as early in the day as possible. On Saturday, you must call between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM. After that time, you will directed to the weekend on-call physician.
SPECIALTY SERVICES -- School Learning Problems and Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADHD):Dr. Zurhellen reserves time each week for parent conferences and learning evaluations for children who are experiencing developmental or educational problems. Foreign Adoption: Dr Shurp specializes in adoption and adaptation, and is happy to meet with you and discuss services in this area. Our staff also sets aside time for Behavior Management and Nutritional Counseling. These services are by appointment only. If you have a particular problem to be discussed, we suggest that you contact the practitioner in advance to allow appropriate preparation.
MEDLINE -- parents can call our Parent Service Line (845 526-3839) on a "24 x 7" basis and leave non-emergent messages requesting prescription refills for chronic medications, managed-care referrals to specialists or authorizations for tests and labwork, or for forms (such as school, sports, or camp forms). You can pick up the material or have it mailed to your home.
ON-CALL PHYSICIANS -- Putnam Valley Pediatrics participates in a local pediatric coverage group which provides pediatric medical coverage for emergencies on a 7-day-a-week, 24-hour-per-day basis, when the office is closed. You can access this service by calling our regular office number (845 528-5222). We ask that you limit your calls to urgent matters or emergencies, and that you call as early as possible during the day on holidays or weekends, so appropriate management can be arranged.
